See the difference with medical tattooing for hair loss
If you’re feeling at a loss, there is an effective solution to lack of hair on brows, lash line and scalp.
Hair is often referred to as your ‘crowning glory’ and is a key part of our identity. But sometimes hair loss can occur from an early age, for a variety of reasons, resulting in baldness, thinning hair or scarring on the scalp, eyebrow or around the eye.
A change of facial features is one of the areas that has the biggest impact psychologically.
Medical tattooing has the answer to restoring many features such as eyebrows, eye definition and small patches of hairless due to illness, surgery or medical treatments. These areas can be visible and for both men and women, can cause worry and anxiety, often leading to a lack of confidence and significant stress.
How can medical tattooing help?
- hairloss patches
- thinning hair
- eyebrow thinning and loss
- eyelash thinning and loss
- scarring to the brow area and scalp
- scarring following hair replacement treatment
Searching for “Scalp Micropigmentation Surrey”?
I am based in a state of the art clinic in Reigate, Surrey, just off the M25. If you are Searching for “Scalp Micropigmentation Surrey” you have come to the right place.
How does it work?
After the area is fully healed, pigments can be used to imitate hair follicles. This will be performed in a few sessions, building up the colour and detail over time. The larger the area concerned, typically more sessions are required.
After a treatment the area will look red, sometimes raised and darker than the desired result. It can take three to seven days to heal, slight sloughing may occur, and then the colour will look approximately 50% lighter.
With scalp density work, ink is used in place of pigment so the results are longer lasting and only require a slight colour boost every five to ten years.
Medical Tattooing with pigment can last between one to five years before a Colour Boost may be needed.
The risks involved are minimal;
- As with all injection sites there is a risk of infection. To minimise this risk the aftercare needs to be adhered to. A dressing can be applied for the initial 48 hours to help reduce this risk.
- On a few occasions the skin does not retain the pigment well.
An initial consultation of half an hour is required to determine patient expectations, suitability of treatment, full medical history in order for a treatment plan to be drawn up.
24 hours prior; do not take the following substances: Stimulants: Tea, coffee, soft drinks with caffeine or other substances containing stimulants.
The number of sessions will depend upon the size of the area to be treated, the level of discolouration and how well the aftercare is adhered to.
The treatment is NOT painful but can be tender.
Cost is applied per treatment sequence and will be discussed during the consultation.
Aftercare (For 7-14 days after the procedure)
NO WATER EXPOSURE for 48 hours and then minimal water for the following week.
AVOID EXPOSURE TO SUN, TANNING BEDS AND UV RAYS. Use effective sunscreen 30SPF or higher for protection.
DO NOT TOUCH THE AREA No scratching, rubbing, or picking the scabs. No facial treatments.
AVOID USING COSMETICS ON THE AREA including facial creams, cleansers, aloe vera, etc.
AVOID WORKING IN THE GARDEN, dirt, pollutants from the environment may cause infections.
AVOID seafood, salty and spicy foods.
AVOID SWIMMING, hot baths, showers and Jacuzzis.
AVOID taking multivitamins with Vitamin A in, or using Retinol containing products on the area.
- Scarring that is unhealed, or red and angry
- Keloid scarring that has been treated with steroids in the area to be treated
- Roaccutane use in the preceding six months
- Pregnancy or breast feeding

Hair Loss Before & Afters
What my patients say…
"If I could regain and harness all the time and energy I've ever spent agonising over my hair (or lack of) I could probably power the whole of London for over a year. I've literally spent hours painstakingly clipping it up in obscure ways in the attempt to make my hair look "normal". Exhausting. I've tried to be philosophical about the scarring and extremely thin patches of hair that cover my scalp, but at the end of the day it's a matter of confidence and feeling comfortable in your body. They don't call hair your "crowning glory" for nothing. Medical tattooing is incredible. I feel so lucky to have had it recommended to me. I was shown such care, attention to detail, warmth & empathy, and instead of feeling awkward about "baring all”, I felt like a masterpiece. The tattooing is done so skilfully that far from being painful, I actually find it relaxing! I now have the confidence to wear my hair in whichever way I want to, and this confidence is reflected in all that I do. Instead of wasting energy on being self-conscious I can focus on what really matters, enjoying life!"
"In January I lost all my hair to total alopecia! Lucklily in May Rae Denman came to my WI and gave us a talk about permanent makeup and medical tattooing. I was very impressed to see her skill at tattooing “hair” where there wasn’t actually any which really looked “real”. After consideration and also seeing the work she did creating one of my WI colleague’s eyebrows I contacted her in July. It is now September and I can boast I have the “best eyebrows” I have ever had and they are completely maintenance free! I visited her 4 times. The first she established what had caused my condition and what medication I was taking (making careful notes along the way). As I have always had allergies once I agreed that I wished to go ahead she patch tested me with the anaesthetic and vegetable dyes that she would use, and only when she knew that I would not be allergic to them did I go again for my first treatment. She very carefully selected the dyes she thought best for me and then proceeded to outline my new brows, and before anything permanent happened gave me a mirror to check that I was completely happy with the shape and colour. On my approval she proceeded. She carefully explained that they would look darker initially and then would “fade” and that they would be a little puffy and may weep initially. I am glad to say I sailed through this with hardly any discomfort at all. The next time I visited she completed my brows. My next visit was just to ensure I did not need any “touching up” or to perfect anything I may have thought needed any adjustment or addition in any way. My whole treatment was conducted with the utmost care and consideration. The tattooing itself is not at all painful and well worth the little “discomfort” experienced for the end result. My new eyebrows have given my face definition lost without brows and lashes and has given my confidence a great boost – I love them! I have no reservation in recommending Rae as she is certainly a “master of her craft."
"I had a complex about my eyebrows for many years but it worsened in 2016 when I lost my hair and then my eyebrows due to a traumatic experience. My confidence plummeted and I spent a lot of time searching for the right person to correct them. I went to see Rae Denman at the Harley Street Clinic on the 26th May 2018. She was extremely professional, knowledgeable and friendly. She took a lot of time to explain the procedure and made sure she understood my concerns and calmed my nerves. The whole experience was fantastic, the time went by so quickly. The result of Rae’s work is amazingly realistic and I highly recommend her."

I am a member of The British Association of Skin Camouflage and trained with them for temporary coverage of burns and scars and The Finishing Touches Group for Permanent Cosmetics and Medical Tattooing. Since then I have undertaken further specialist training with Nouveau Contour for brows and lips, and The Linda Paradis Group for tattoo removal.
I am founder of BAMT (The British Association of Medical Tattooing) which was driven by my concerns that the industry was both unregulated and too easily allowed vulnerable clients to progress through escalating fixations on procedures. Our goal is to promote ethics in aesthetics.
As well as the private sector, I led NHS clinics at the Burns and Plastics unit, Morriston Hospital, Swansea, specialising in nipple/areola tattooing and temporary camouflage cover of burns and scars. I was awarded the 20 years of excellence Life Changing Procedure for my work with nipple areola tattooing.
I featured on ITV ‘This Morning with Lorraine Kelly’ performing hair stroke brows for a feature on anti-ageing alongside Dr Khan and Dr Devine.
I collaborated with The Katie Piper Foundation and The Telegraph to create a time-lapse video of myself applying Camouflage and Makeup on a burns survivor demonstrating the positive effects this has on her physical and mental wellbeing.
I am a consultant and stockist for Veil Cover Cream UK who have launched the 'Rae Denman Range' of 10 beautiful new shades of cover cream which I developed from years of experience and changing skin tones.
