Medical Tattooing

Medical Tattooing

The benefits of medical tattooing are visual, physical and psychological.

My patients want to look better, feel confident, to have a say in their appearance, and for some, to finalise their medical journey. I am usually the patients’ last port of call; when all the surgery is completed and a final touch is needed for enhancement. I will do my upmost to help you feel comfortable and safe during the consultation and procedure.

BREASTS

There are a range of reasons as to why someone may need medical tattooing for their breasts. These include scar reduction, areola re-sizing and symmetry correction, nipple colour enhancement and full areola reconstruction.

SCARS AND BURNS

Generally a year after a scar has healed, pigments can be used to match the scar to the colour of the surrounding skin in a blending effect. You can also relax the scar and can cause the scar to re-pigment naturally with a dry needling and dispersion treatments known as MCA. Finally, if required, you can reconstruct facial features; eyebrows, eye definition and lips.

GRAFTS

A skin graft will often be of a different tone and texture to the surrounding skin. I use a technique of implanting a range of colours in a mosaic form to blend the graft into the encircling skin.

 CLEFT LIP

Initially it may be useful to use MCA micro needling to smooth the texture of the skin and bring out as much natural pigment as possible. This will be followed by definition of the vermillion border, improving the symmetry of the cupids bow and lips.

VITILIGO

In some cases, it is possible to tattoo colour into patches of Vitiligo to match existing skin tones.

MCA MICRO-NEEDLING

Improving the texture and colour of scars, stretchmarks and wrinkles, MCA Micro-Needling uses the same medically certified machine and needle cartridges as micro-pigmentation. However, there is no need to use pigment. By gently needling alongside the site of the wrinkle or scar, the fibres are broken up and activate the body’s healing system.

Collagen and elastin production is stimulated in the treated area, which naturally results in flattening raised or pitted scars, smoothing wrinkles and stretchmarks, and improving skin texture.Melanin is also stimulated resulting in a natural increase in colour to the area that will tan and fade with the rest of the skin.

CONSULTATION & INITIAL TREATMENT (please leave up to 4 hours)

Prior to any of the treatments, we will look at your medical history in detail, including not only past surgical procedures but any upcoming future plans.

We will then have a discussion about your requirements, and your desired result. This gives me a basis to work from, and with my knowledge and experience, I can offer you the options and work out a suitable treatment plan.

Once we agree on the treatment plan, I can start the initial stage of application. This will either include literally drawing on your body (breasts). Whether we are starting from scratch or matching one with the other, you will be fully involved in the process. You will be sensitively guided and advised, but it will be your approval that directs the procedure. Size, shape, pre-existing markings, type of skin, area to be tattooed will all be taken into account to produce the most natural and effective appearance.

Finally we will work together to find the correct colour(s). Taking into consideration your skin tone, natural hair colour, and preference, a range of pigments will be custom picked to perfectly match your requirements.

Now it’s time for your treatment. Micropigmentation/ Medical Tattooing is the process of implanting pigment into the dermal layer of the skin. I use a medically certified machine and hand-piece that makes a gentle humming noise. You will be laid down on a couch, and made as comfortable as possible. It can be a relaxing process for some people.

 POST TREATMENT

The area will appear darker for the first few days, and then tone down over the next week. During the following few weeks, the colour will increase in intensity. By the fourth week, the true colour will show. After-care is important to minimise the risk of infection. The areola will be covered up so they don’t rub against your clothing, and it is advisable to take off the dressings when home and wear a loose, dark T-shirt. The area needs to be kept clean and dry, and an after-care balm administered sparingly with a clean cotton bud.
